All Stars teams named for pre-season clash

The Indigenous and Maori sides have been named for the upcoming NRL/W All Stars showcase at Rotorua International Stadium on February 11.

NRL players including Joseph Manu, James Fisher-Harris, Joseph Tapine and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves have been selected for the Maori team while the Indigenous All Stars will have Latrell Mitchell, Josh Addo-Carr, Nicho Hynes and Selwyn Cobbo in their side.

However, the Māori All Stars will have seven players set to play in the showpiece event for the first time and will be missing halfback and 2022 co-captain Kodi Nikorima, as well as Chanel Harris-Tavita.

It’s likely Manu will play in the No.6 jersey while one of the younger playmakers will fill in at halfback in Nikorima’s absence.

The Indigenous All Stars could have a significant advantage with Dally M Medal winner Hynes, veterans Cody Walker and Jack Wighton along with Brisbane’s Ezra Mam as their playmaking options.

The women’s and men’s matches will follow a curtain-raiser between the Māori and Indigenous All Stars Touch Football teams.
